Psychology
Our Curriculum Intent
The Psychology department will bring out the best by delivering a diverse and interesting curriculum, exploring the building blocks behind human behaviour. We will explore the impact of our own behaviour on others as well as looking at both local and global issues from a psychological perspective.
This will enable all our young people to develop their ability to better understand the reasons for human behaviour. Students will be able to debate different psychological explanations for various phenomena and analyse studies to be able to make judgements about the suitability of scientific research. Students will also build on their knowledge of creating scientific research, data skills and evaluative reasoning so that they are able to better interpret the world around them.
Thinking like a psychologist involves not only important analytical and data skills, it also allows students to communicate effectively with others and allows for deeper empathy of others within our society. Students can make reasoned arguments for human behaviour and apply their knowledge to current events and the world around them.
Psychology is an important subject because it deals with the study of mental processes and behaviour at the same time. It can be applied to situations in our everyday lives as well as every event in human history. Human behaviour is the basis for civilisation as we know it and understanding what drives us to behave in the way we do, can help students to make sense of the world around them and become better at communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures. Students who study psychology are given the tools to become more sensitive, cosmopolitan individuals, which benefits not only themselves, but the society in which they live.
